Berlin, March 4, 2025 – In 2025, Egypt is once again a leading destination for culture and nature enthusiasts. Two groundbreaking developments are garnering the attention of a global audience. For the first time in 100 years, a tomb of a famous pharaoh has been discovered near the Valley of the Kings – a sensational find that has drawn international attention. In addition, in July, the long-anticipated full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum will be celebrated.

Sherif Fathi, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, said at the ITB press conference:
“Germany remains a cornerstone of our tourism industry, and we are committed to strengthening our ties even further. With the upcoming full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and our ongoing focus on sustainability, we expect a significant increase in visitors in 2025.”

Grand Egyptian Museum: A Milestone for the Museum World
After years of preparation, the Grand Egyptian Museum will officially open on July 3, 2025. Located at the foot of the Pyramids of Giza, it is the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization. The museum’s impressive architecture, innovative exhibition concepts, and the first-ever complete display of the Tutankhamun treasures make it a must-see for travelers to Egypt.

Visitors can look forward to over 100,000 artifacts spanning Egypt’s history from the earliest periods to the Greco-Roman era. New technology brings the exhibits to life, while interactive displays and virtual reality experiences offer a unique journey through the world of the pharaohs. During its pre-opening, over 300,000 people have already visited the museum’s main galleries.

Historic Discovery: The Tomb of Thutmose II
Egypt once again takes center stage for culture enthusiasts as a historic discovery has enthralled the global audience. An Egyptian-British research team has uncovered the long-lost tomb of Thutmose II, as confirmed by the Ministry of Antiquities in Cairo. This previously undiscovered royal tomb of the 18th Dynasty is regarded as the most significant archaeological find since the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. Archaeologists anticipate groundbreaking new insights into the lives and reigns of the pharaohs.

From Ancient Marvels to Thrilling Adventures and Serene Escapes
Egypt’s unmatched diversity offers something for every traveler, from history and culture enthusiasts to nature lovers, adventurers, and wellness seekers. Beyond its unparalleled ancient heritage, visitors can immerse themselves in the country’s stunning natural beauty. The Red Sea, with its crystal-clear waters, is a paradise for divers and families alike. Moreover, Egypt is emerging as a premier destination for health and wellness tourism, where luxurious resorts and natural healing springs create the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Minister Fathi emphasized: “Egypt offers culture enthusiasts as well as nature lovers an unmatched diversity that promises both adventure and relaxation. Like water sports activities, kite surfing, desert safaris and diving. We are utilizing the latest technologies to protect our cultural heritage and diversity. Sustainable tourism is our core principle.”

Egypt is leading the way in sustainable tourism with initiatives aimed at preserving its natural and cultural heritage. The government works closely with resorts and environmental organizations to ensure responsible tourism development.
Known for its mineral-rich hot springs and healing waters, the country offers world-class therapy services for skin conditions, respiratory illnesses, and rheumatism. Some of the most renowned wellness destinations include:

• Siwa Oasis, with over 200 healing springs
• Bahariya and Kharga Oases, with sulfur-rich water
• Aswan, home to renowned spa complexes such as Kato Doo Wellness and The Zen Wellness

Tourism Boom: Germany as Egypt’s Key Source Market
Germany remains Egypt’s most important tourism market. In 2024, 1.7 million German tourists visited the country – a 5% increase compared to the previous year. In total, 15.7 million international tourists visited Egypt, also a 5% increase compared to 2023. Egypt has set ambitious targets: by 2030, it aims to welcome 30 million visitors annually.
